I would like to bring to peoples’ attention a new short film by writer / director Adam Kargman: Repressions. "Repressions" dramatizes the misfortune of a young lady seeking therapeutic assistance, and finds herself under the influence of Dr. Flowers, who believes all Jamie's troubles string from an unknown situation of childhood sexual abuse. Desperate for some answers to her sorrow, Jamie falls under the influence of Dr. Flowers and is subjected to hypnosis, as well as suggestion and regression therapy. These processes induce implanted memories for Jamie of non-existent childhood trauma of sexual abuse. Many real-life patients who while seeking solutions have been harmed and subjected to more problems. Kargman creates a masterful replication of these corrupt therapeutic practices. The viewer experiences the inner turmoil through Jamie’s perspective. Kargman’s often disjointed editing dramatizes the painful, and alarming process of implanted memory. With a new court order in my case for a hearing regarding the possible use of hypnosis, and other similar repressed memory / recovered memory therapeutic practices, this movie has taken on unique interest for me. I encourage everyone who might have the fortunate opportunity to see this film not to neglect that chance. Short films often carry powerful messages, but it is difficult for those film makers to show their work to viewers. Don’t miss this film. |
