New Evidence Presented in Jesse Friedman Case
The National Center For Reason and Justice (NCRJ) Invites Great Neck Community To View Special Screening and Discussion of Newly Discovered Evidence in Case Chronicled in the Landmark Documentary Capturing the Friedmans
Jesse Friedman, who served nearly 14 years in prison in a mass sexual abuse case in Great Neck in the late 1980s, will be joined by Capturing the Friedmans director Andrew Jarecki, representatives from the NCRJ, and prominent civil rights attorney Ronald Kuby, to present compelling new filmed evidence that Jesse Friedman was wrongfully convicted. The material will be presented on Sunday, November 18th at 4:00 PM at the The Inn at Great Neck 30 Cutter Mill Road, Great Neck, NY
In 2010, the Federal Court for the Second Circuit (the nation’s second highest court) found after careful review, that “….there was a reasonable likelihood that Jesse Friedman was wrongfully convicted,” and that his guilty plea may have been “coerced.” The Court asked the Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice to review newly discovered evidence, including recanting witnesses, police and prosecutor misconduct, withholding of evidence, and questionable actions by Judge Abbey Boklan. Rice’s case review, begun in 2010, is stated to be “continuing.”
Five of the fourteen children who police said in 1988 had alleged they were abused by Jesse Friedman and others, have already recanted those statements, saying they were never abused or had only made those statements after being pressured by police in a fever-pitch atmosphere of community hysteria.
Rice appointed a special advisory panel to review evidence of Jesse’s innocence, which includes the Innocence Project’s Barry Scheck.
